Her story intertwines with Toklo's after his mother is brought to the zoo and Lusa hears of the wild. Hoping to leave her home, she escapes the zoo and looks for Toklo. Meanwhile, Toklo finds Ujurak injured and helps him; they begin to travel together. They meet up with Lusa at the end of the book. By Great Bear Lake, the four bears have joined together and they try to go to the Arctic. Although Kallik finds her Taqqiq, he has joined a group of bullying bears who kidnap a black bear cub.

Taqqiq sees that what he did was wrong and joins the questing bears but he soon leaves the group in the third book, Smoke Mountain, when he feels he does not belong with them.

The remaining four cubs learn of a place called the Last Great Wilderness in the third book which is the Arctic National Wildlife Refugewhere there is plentiful food and shelter. After defying hardships such as hunger and bear hunters, they finally make it to the Last Great Wilderness. However, even though they are there, Ujurak, who leads the journey, feels that they need to go further, into the Arctic.

In the sixth and final book of the first series, Spirits in the Stars, the four bears make it to Star Island Ellesmere Islanda place where many polar bears live. They find a sick mother polar bear named Sura and her cub.

Sura dies from sickness and the traveling four bears look after her cub, which Kallik names Kissimi. Toklo finds that he also struggles with his urge to become a proper brown bear and travel alone. The bears save the polar bears that inhabit Star Island by destroying an oil rig that was poisoning the seals that they eat, but Ujurak dies in an avalanche while saving the others. Yakone, a determined young male polar bear who lived on the strange Star Island with the sick bears, is added to the group of bears on the last page of the book.

Return to the Wild[ edit ] The series takes place over the span of six books. The story follows Toklo, Kallik, Lusa, and Yakone as they return home but struggle between leaving the only family they've ever known or returning home, where they haven't been for so long. They also meet the strange Nanulak, a male grolar bear. Other books[ edit ] Seekers has also been published in original English-language manga form. The second, featuring Kallik, called Kallik's Adventure was released on February 8, The third one was going to be called Lusa's Tale, But Tokyopop, the graphic novel company, decided not to make any more books for the USA.

Unless Erin Hunter creates it herself, the book may not come out at all.

Holmes says that by "coming up with a series about a different animal gave me a chance to explore some themes that don't fit so easily into Warriors. However, when Tobi died, Oka was blinded by grief, and abandons him when they reach the Great Salmon River. Toklo was then left to fend for himself, and soon came upon another young grizzly cub named Ujurak. Shortly he agreed to let Ujurak travel with him. When Toklo learns of Ujurak's shape-shifting abilities, he is amazed and doesn't know what to think.

While by a river, Ujurak becomes a salmon and Toklo is forced to lie to the grizzlies hunting there that the water is poisoned to save Ujurak. They came upon another young bear named Lusa. She was a small black bear cub, and said that she had seen Toklo's mother, Oka, and that she told her to find him to tell him she was sorry for abandoning him. Toklo didn't want anything to do with her, though. However, Ujurak persuaded Toklo to let Lusa come with them on their journey.

Great Bear Lake Lusa told Toklo about how Oka was sorry about what she did, and that Oka really loved Toklo, but he dismissed it, still angry that she had left him. When Lusa and Ujurak talk about signs, Toklo thinks they are crazy, yet goes along with it and listens to Ujurak.

Toklo and Ujurak get seperated from Lusa when other brown bears tell her she doesn't belong there. To convince the spirits to bring back the salmon, a bear needed to swim to Paw Print Island.

Shoteka, a bear who hated Oka and Toklo for Oka rejecting him says Toklo should swim to the island, hoping Toklo would drown in the process. While swimming there, the spirits of his mother and brother visited him. Toklo thought they were trying to drown him, but soon realizes they still love him and they help him to the island.

Shoteka comes to kill Toklo for revenge, and the bears fight. Oka tells him what to do and he soon wins. Smoke Mountain Toklo and Lusa seemed to be closer to each other. The bears, including Taqqiqheard of a place called Smoke Mountainfrom an old bear named Qopuk.

He soon died, and the bears decided to go to Smoke Mountain. Taqqiq left the group soon afterwards.

Lusa was hit by a firebeast, and fell in a state like depression. Toklo helped her to travel by carrying her on his back. Later he confronted her and convinced her not to run away. The bears encountered flat-faces, whom captured and trapped Toklo. He almost drowned because the firebeast fell into a river, and began to sink. The other bears rescued him, and arrived at the Last Great Wilderness. The Last Wilderness Toklo was cornered by a young flat-face cub when he was deciding to hunt a caribou.

After some time, Toklo chose to leave the group forever and live on his own, which made Lusa very sad. But, he struggles to live on his own in the mountains, where he hears that prey is scarce, and the flat-faces are bulding dens near; and destroying the trees.

When Toklo was going toward the flat lands, he discovers that there are lots of metal buildings and metal birds. There, he rescues Lusa and Kallik from getting crushed by the metal bird.

Toklo finds out that Ujurak was missing and he joins with Lusa and Kallik to help find him. Fire in the Sky Toklo and the group was guided by Kallik, to and though the ice.

He is angry and tense as Kallik takes the lead instead of him, proving herself more effective then he is on the ice. On one night Toklo had a dream from the lone bear. In the dream the lone bear warned him that one of the four was going to die.

Toklo thought it was Lusa, so he told Ujurak and Kallik in private about his theory. Then Lusa and him headed back to land.
